Snow (or polar vortex) day Snowmen

Luckily, I had bought supplies for this little snowman project a while ago, and was just saving it for the right time.  With 2 days of school closings due to frigid temperatures this January, we busted out our snowman supplies and went to work.  The kids had fun designing what their snowman would look like, and it kept them occupied for a while. Yay!

Lyric Opera's "The Magic Victrola"

One of Caroline's Christmas presents this year was an outing to the Lyric Opera's first "opera for kids" performance. They presented the "The Magic Victrola", which wove together famous opera songs into a clever kid-friendly story.  We went with 2 other mother-daughter pairs and had a great time.  It was such a fun and unique experience and I loved getting to do it with my special girl.

Boy Scout Pinewood Derby

The kids got to build their first "Pinewood derby" cars this year.  We had a building day with the boy scouts and the kids (with Daddy's help) got to use drills, power-sanders, hammers, and other fun power tools.  This is quite the involved process!  People add weights, file axels, and do all of these little things to make their cars faster.

On the day of the race, they each got to race their car 4 times, once in each lane.

Clayton's car won 2nd place in the tiger scout division and 2nd place overall!
Caroline's car won the "siblings" race!

New Years Eve 2014

New Years Eve 2014 was spent at our house with the wonderful Harvey family.  What a fun tradition we've continued!
