Writing their own books

The other day, I had Caroline and Clayton make up a short story and then dictate it to me.  I wrote it down, then typed it out on the computer.  I typed a few sentences per page with plenty of room for illustrations.  I printed it out and let the kids draw pictures pertaining to the sentences on the page.  Clayton wrote "The Dinosaur and the Boy" and Caroline wrote "The Princess who Liked to Be Fancy".  They loved this activity! They were so proud of their very own books. Clayton brought his to school to show to his teacher and the teacher asked if she could read it to the class.  When she did, and explained that Clayton wrote and illustrated it, the kids all wanted to create their own books too!

(If you want to make one, you can format the document to be landscape and select the "2 pages per sheet" option.  That way you can fold the paper and it looks like a "real book".
