Tennessee Road trip - Stop #1 - Louisville, Kentucky

We decided to try out our first roadtrip this summer. The final destination was Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, but we decided to break up the drive. We took I-65 all the way through Indiana...a pretty monotonous drive through flat-as-anything farmland. At least the fields were green with crops!

Our first leg was to Louisville, Kentucky.
We stopped at Churchill Downs to see where the Kentucky Derby is run.

The inside doesn't look quite as grand as the outside nor as grand as it looks on TV in the spring!

After a quick visit to the Kentucky Derby Museum , we arrived in Louisville, Kentucky.  The Embassy Suites - Lousiville awaited.
Right outside our hotel, they had an outdoor live music scene.  Nothing was playing since it was a Tuesday night, but it looks like a really fun place to hang on weekends.
We had an AMAZING southern dinner at Doc Crows.

"Best pulled pork I've ever eaten", said Kevin.
Delicious oyster and shrimp po' boy.
Caroline and I tasted some excellent raw oysters. Mmmmm!

The next morning, we drove through Kentucky. The flat Indiana farmland morphed into rolling green hills with white picket fences separating the horse farms.  Beautiful country.  We started to pass more and more rock-filled hills.

En route, we stopped at Fort Boonsborough, a revolutionary war settlement.
